Infants start experimenting with language long before it becomes something we can understand. Responding when a baby babbles is important in encouraging this sound exploration. When your infants babble or coo, you should babble or coo back at them. While it's important to also speak real words to infants, babbling back and forth is a similarly powerful form of communication.
What We're Learning:
- social / emotional (smiling at people, looking at caregiver)
- language / communication (babbling, copying sounds)
- cognitive (responding to affection)
