Paper Plate Skating

Paper Plate Skating

Location: indoor

Materials: open space, paper plates, music

This is a great activity for a rainy day that keeps you inside. Invite children to stand on paper plates and use them to "skate" across the floor (think: ice skating without ice!). Turn on music and invite children to move their bodies with the music.

Possible Extensions:

  • Show a few videos of professional figure skaters
  • Allow children to put on "skating costumes"

What We're Learning:

  • self-expression and creativity
  • fine and gross motor development
  • language and vocabulary development
  • crossing the midline (and other pre-writing skills)
