Materials: pipe cleaners and a colander

This is a fun open-ended activity that you can do with children of all ages. It also helps kids develop their fine motors skills. Place a variety of pipe cleaners and a colander on the table. Invite children to weave the pipe cleaners in and out of the holes, creating a wacky and colorful scene.

Possible Extensions:

• Allow children to wear their creations on their heads as crazy hair
• Add beads to the mix and allow children to string beads on the pipe cleaners before attaching them to the colander
• Substitute straws for pipe cleaners
