Texture Play

Texture Play

Location: indoor

Materials: a variety of materials of different textures like cardboard, carpet squares, sticky contact paper, scarves, bubble wrap, a towel, felt, etc.

When your infants start crawling you can add in some sensory exploration to their movement. Lay out a variety of materials of different textures on the floor. Invite your infants to crawl around and explore the different textures around them. They may stop to pick up and touch certain materials more than others.

You may also choose to collect the items in a basket that you pull off the shelf from time to time and encourage them to explore.

What We're Learning:

  • cognitive (cause and effect, showing curiosity about things in the environment, exploring things in different ways)
  • physical (hand-eye coordination, sensory exploration)
  • independence
